Exploring the Art World with a Passionate Artist

Anton van de Water

SCULPTOR

Bio

In the 1980s, Anton was first introduced to the material: clay. Today, he creates his ceramic objects in his studio, “Les Quatre Chats” in Wouw.

The work of Anton van de Water is the result of a continuous search for perfection in clay. His critical eye and desire to create beautiful things form the foundation of his craftsmanship. By constantly pushing his boundaries, he continues to refine his skills. This ongoing process makes his work not only versatile but also deeper and more meaningful as it evolves. That is precisely what characterizes his style.

Anton does not limit himself to a single style or technique; the possibilities of clay are endless. Initially, he focused primarily on sculpting. But he soon discovered the power of wheel-throwing. Throwing pots became almost meditative for him: the clay glides through his hands and continuously takes on new forms. Ultimately, Anton finds beauty in simplicity. Clean lines and pure shapes—visually striking and refined.

His creative process is free from societal influences or restrictive values. The clay is guided by Anton’s hands, resulting in a smooth, almost intuitive workflow. He is eager and determined, with a clear vision and technique that come together in every form he creates.

For Anton, everything revolves around development—both in his own work and in the experience he offers his audience. The ultimate goal is to capture the essence of his creation and to touch the viewer. Every step in his process is aimed at coming ever closer to the core, ultimately creating a deeper connection.
